Brief Overview of IAS Exam:
Educational qualification: If you want to apply for IAS Exam then you must hold degree (graduation) in any subject from a recognized university/institute. If any candidate is pursuing his final year then he/she can also apply.
UPSC IAS Age limit: Minimum and maximum age of the candidates is between 21-32 years and candidates belongs to SC/St category will get upper age relaxation up to 37 years and OBC will get upper age relaxation up to 35 years.

Number of attempts: candidates in general category have 6 chances to appear for exam and SC/ST category candidates have 9 chances to appear for exam.
Nationality: Only Indian Candidate is allowed to appear for exam.
UPSC IAS Selection Process: First of all you have to fill IAS Application Form through online mode from the official website. Then if you get shortlisted through screening of application forms, you will have to appear for preliminary examination which is qualifying in nature. After preliminary examination you have to check answer key which is made available after 2-3 days of examination.
Through answer key take estimation of your result and if you qualify preliminary examination you have to appear for mains examination conducted on scheduled date. After that you have to fill detailed application form to appear for personality test/personal interview round conducted by the unbiased observer. If you successfully qualify personal interview round then you will be appointed on IAS Officer Post.

UPSC IAS Preliminary Exam:
Preliminary Examination is held in the month of May-June and result will be announced in the month of July-August. Firstly you have to apply for preliminary examination only. Preliminary exam will comprise of two papers having 200 marks each. Both the papers are of objective type. To calculate final order merit list, marks of prelims will not get considered.

IAS Mains Exam:
Mains Examination is conducted in the month of October-November. This exam comprises of 09 papers having conventional essay type questions. Marks of Mains Examination are included in final merit list.
