Indian Forest Service Syllabus 2017

UPSC IFS General English Syllabus:

The standard level of papers in General English is designed for a Science or Engineering graduate of an Indian University. The paper would consist of an essay and passages to write summary. Other questions are designed to test general understanding of English and everyday use of words.

UPSC IFS Exam Pattern:

UPSC Indian forest Service’s Exam having three papers. Following are the description of the 3 papers:

  • Paper 1: Indian forest Service’s Exam 1 is of General English which is mandatory exam. One needs to qualify it before pursuing further process. It is of 300 marks.
  • Paper 2: Indian forest Service’s Exam 2 is of General Knowledge which is also a mandatory exam. It is also of 300 marks.
  • Paper 3, 4 & 5: Any two subjects to be selected from the list of optional subjects set out below. Each subject will have two papers. It is of 200 marks for each subject.

Note: Total marks for written examination is of 1400 marks and after written examination, interview for personality test will be of 300 marks.

UPSC IFS Interview for Personality Test:

The final selection will be made on the basis of individual’s performance in the interview for personality test. Qualified Applicants will be called for a personality test that is interview. The purpose of the interview is to judge the suitability of the candidate for the Service.

Negative Marking Scheme

Applicants should note that there will be penalty (negative marking) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the Objective Type Question Papers.

  • For each wrong answer 1/3 marks will be deducted.
  • More than one answer will be treated as wrong and same penalty will be applied.
  • No marks will be deducted for un-attempted question.
