IAS Preliminary Exam Syllabus:

This Exam includes 2 papers i.e. Paper 1 and Paper 2 for which complete syllabus is given here:

Paper 1 Paper 2
  • History of India and Indian national movement
  • General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization General Science.
  • Indian and world geography- Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
  • Indian politics and governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
  • Current events of national and international importance
  • Economic and social development Ecology- – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc
  • Comprehension
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills
  • General mental ability
  • English language comprehension skills
  • Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. – Class X level).

IAS Main Exam Syllabus

Main examination includes 2 paper i.e. paper A and paper B.

  • In paper A, there are 2 parts
  • In Paper B there is 7 parts.

Paper A

Paper I:  Any Indian Language

  • In this examination you have to select one language that included in Eighth Schedule of Constitution.
  • This exam is not mandatory for applicants who are belong and living Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim States.

Paper II: English

The motive of this paper is to examine the communication skills and understand serious discursive prose and check the ability express his/her thoughts properly in English and related Indian Language

Pattern of questions may be as follows:-

  • Comprehension of given passages
  • Precis Writing
  • Usage and Vocabulary

Paper B

Paper 1: Essay

Applicants have to write an essay on a particular topic. The Choices of subjects will be provided. Aspirants have to select that topic through this you can easily assemble their ideas in logical.

Paper 2: General Studies 1

  • Indian culture will cover the salient aspects of Art Forms, Literature and Architecture from ancient to modern times.
  • Indian Heritage/Culture, World History & Geography).
  • Post-independence consolidation and reorganization within the country.
  • The Freedom Struggle – its various stages and important contributors /contributions from different parts of the country.
  • Modern Indian history from about the middle of the eighteenth century until the present- significant events, personalities, issues.

Paper 3: General Studies 2

  • Modern Indian history from about the middle of the eighteenth century until the present- significant events, personalities, issues.
  • Indian culture will cover the salient aspects of Art Forms, Literature and Architecture from ancient to modern times.
  • Post-independence consolidation and reorganization within the country.
  • Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations).
  • The Freedom Struggle – its various stages and important contributors /contributions from different parts of the country.

Paper 4: General Studies 3

  • Indian Economy and issues relating to planning, mobilization of resources, growth, development and employment.
  • Technology, Economic Development, Bio-Diversity, Environment, Security & Disaster Management).
  • Development, Bio diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management.
  • Government Budgeting.
  • Inclusive growth and issues arising from it.

Paper 5: General Studies 4

  • Attitude: content, structure, function; its influence and relation with thought and behaviour; moral and political attitudes; social influence and persuasion.
  • Human Values – lessons from the lives and teachings of great leaders, reformers and administrators; role of family, society and educational institutions in inculcating values.
  • Ethics and Human Interface: Essence, determinants and consequences of Ethics in human actions; dimensions of ethics; ethics in private and public relationships.
  • Ethics, Integrity & Aptitude)

Paper 6: Optional 1 (Of your choice)/ Optional 2 (Of your choice)

  • Agriculture, Chemistry, Medical science, Electrical Engineering, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Sociology, Statistics, Law, Essays, Commerce & Accountancy and Psychology.
  • Botany, Economics, General Studies, Geography, Management, Philosophy, Public Administration

IAS Interview:

Aspirants who will qualify in preliminary and main exam they will shortlisted for interview which will be organize after declaration of main exam result. This Interview will be of 275 marks.
